Background
The University of Juba (UoJ) recognizes the importance of research ethics in promoting responsible and innovative research. To achieve this, the university aims to develop and implement research ethics policies, regulations, and guidelines that ensure the rights, dignity, and welfare of research participants are respected and protected.
The Research Ethics Policy seeks to promote a culture of honesty, transparency, and accountability in research practices among researchers. This policy has been developed based on internationally accepted ethical guidelines and codes of good practice for various categories and disciplines of researchers working with humans, animals, the environment, engineering, and other fields.
Policy Objectives
- To protect the rights and welfare of research participants involving human and animal subjects.
- To promote research Integrity by fostering a culture of honesty, transparency, and accountability in research practices among university staff and students.
- To ensure Compliance with National and International regulations, laws, and guidelines governing research ethics.
- To provide guidance for Researchers on ethical issues and best practices in research.
- To establish and implement procedures for addressing research misconduct.
- To foster a culture of ethical conduct of research within and outside the university community.
- To ensure that innovative research is conducted in a responsible and ethical manner.
- To protect vulnerable populations such as children, elderly, or marginalized groups from exploitation and harm.
